![]() ![]() Details about people and specific, personal events can might be inaccurate or even embellished (especially in cases where the author wasn't a contemporary or his or her subject). One event is dated to a certain year, only to show up as having happened on another one, in some other author's works. One narrates a victory or event as having happened due to one side's merits, another describes it as luck on the winning side and incompetence on the losing side. ![]() However, I'm well aware of the discrepancies and issues that arise from historical sources one ancient author says that an army was X soldiers strong, another says Z. Just to clear it up: I'm not a historian, nor do I have any formal training or education in history at any university or institute of higher learning. I've been enjoying it immensely, so far, but I have a few things I'm curious about. I recently started reading Polybius' Histories (specifically, the Rise of Rome Folio Society 2013 edition, translated by Robin Waterfield).
